CONSERVATION STATUS

Least-Concern

The Common Pochard is a medium diving duck that feeds at night. It breeds in areas of marshes and lakes in northern Europe and Asia. In the winter months, they will typically migrate to southern and western Europe. They also travel in large flocks in cold weather, and are known to interbreed with the Tufted Duck. The Common Pochard dives for its food in surrounding bodies of water in its habitat. It typically feeds on plants, mollusks, insects and small fish. Due to maintained and increased populations of the Common Pochard, its conservation rating remains at Least Concern.
